announcements

Welcome to Pre-k!! I am so excited for a year of fun-filled activities.

The children will not only be having “fun” but in the process learning many valuable lessons along the way.

From now until the end of the school year our focus will be on learning independence, building friendships, and establishing routines.

My philosophy in teaching young children is that they are just that young children. They need the opportunity to be children and to have lessons and activities which are age-appropriate. Over extending children at this age where they could become frustrated is not only unproductive but sets the stage for learning to be an unpleasant journey. Playing and socializing is how children at this age learn. Hands on is very much a part of our Early Childhood Program.

It is my hope that every child leaves my classroom happy and ready to learn! J

FEBRUARY 2012

In Pre-K this month our focus will be working on mini books which will highlight various sight words, alphabet letters and sounds.

The children love writing in their journals and then sharing their entries with the class during rug time. We have also been working on our “Thinking Page” which makes the children think creatively to answer various teacher directed questions.

As we enter the second half of our school year I will be working with the children on following 3-4 step directions as well as getting all of their materials needed for any given lesson. Independence will be a great focus for the children in preparing them for kindergarten.

The Pre-K children are expanding their sight word vocabulary. They love learning how pictures help them with words.

As Catholic Schools Week approaches we will celebrate our school with the following exciting activities!

*Movie Day at the cinema

*Fancy Nancy Day

*Outside Snow Play Day

*Community Helpers Day

*Backwards/Inside out Day

As well as participating in school bingo, puppet show and magic show

The children will also this month be celebrating Chinese New Year

We will make various art projects, and learn about Chinese customs. We will end our week with a Chinese food tasting party.

This month we will also learn about Presidents

I will also introduce various characters who will teach the children various character trait values.
